Non-Ladder Stitch Start to Herringbone Stitch

Most of the time, herringbone (ndebele) stitch is started with a ladder stitch base. But you don't have to do it that way! Here's a method for starting herringbone so it mimics the working end! I show both flat and tubular versions.
