Knitting the Eye of Partridge Stitch

Why this stitch is called the eye of partridge, I have NO IDEA. I assume because somehow it looks like the eye of a partridge. I mean, that would be logical, but this is knitting we're talking about after all.  ...  birds! Follow me on Twitter: @RJC
