Crochet waffle stitch graphghan

Using the waffle stitch to crochet graphghan .. its always 3x thw amount of stitches .. so of the stitch count was 20 .. it would be 20x3+4 so chain stitch should be 64 .. i am using dk yarn and a 4mm hook
